: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s decision to skip the meeting held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to discuss the restructuring of the Planning Commission has drawn flak from opposition parties in the Union Territory.
“This is unethical on the part of Mr. Rangasamy who has been abstaining from all meetings in Delhi. He should explain why he chose to stay away from such an important meeting in which Chief Ministers of major states had participated and aired their views despite their tight schedule”, AIADMK deputy legislature party leader A. Anbalagan said.
Mr. Anbalagan said that the Chief Minister ought have participated and submitted a memorandum seeking statehood and central grants in the backdrop of the severe financial crisis faced by the Union Territory.
He said that skipping such a crucial meet would definitely scuttle the development of Puducherry.
DMK unit organiser, M.A.S.Subramanian said Mr. Rangasamy’s boycott of Chief Ministers’ conference held in New Delhi is tantamount to the act of ignoring people of Puducherry. He said the Chief Minister has been continuously avoiding to go to New Delhi. As severe financial crisis hit the government, several schemes could not be implemented.
Dr. Subramanian said , “Chief Minister Mr. Rangasamy failed to utilize his power. Even though he has been continuously demanding additional power to him on par with any other Chief Ministers of States and Statehood, he failed to go and address at appropriate place in New Delhi. Chief Minister lost the opportunity to demand the waiver of loan as he did not participate in the meeting. Through this, Chief Minister proved that he has no care to the people.”
