Puducherry Chief Minister and All India N.R. Congress founder N. Rangasamy on Wednesday postponed the launch of an open-vehicle campaign by a day owing to delay in getting mandatory permission from the election authorities.
It was announced that he would launch the campaign at Kanaka Chettikulam, near Kalapet, to seek votes for AINRC candidate R. Radhakrishnan. A vehicle was also kept ready at the spot.
Expecting that the programme would start at 9 a.m., a large number of workers were present at the venue.
However, they got the message in the last minute that Mr. Rangasamy would not be coming as election authorities were yet to give permission for the campaign vehicle.
Collector S.B. Deepak Kumar, who is the District Election Officer, granted permission around 11 a.m. on Wednesday. However, AINRC sources admitted that improper planning in the presentation of the details of campaign vehicles was the main reason for the delay in getting permission on time.
The election authorities seized a vehicle of the AINRC a few days ago for being used for campaign without permission.
