Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, his Ministerial colleagues and senior officials paid floral tributes to the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the occasion of his 23rd death anniversary on Wednesday.
Assembly Speaker V. Sabapathy, Ministers P. Rajavelu, N.G. Pannir Selvam, T. Thiagarajan, Deputy Speaker T.P.R. Selvame, Parliamentary Secretary M. Vaithianathan also paid tributes.
As Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary was observed as Anti-Terrorism Day, Mr. Rangasamy, Ministers and officials took an anti-terrorism pledge. They reaffirmed their faith in the country’s tradition of non-violence and tolerance and solemnly resolved to oppose all forms of terrorism and violence. They also pledged to uphold and promote peace, social harmony and understanding among fellow human beings and fight the forces of disruption, threatening human lives and values.
Later, they offered floral tributes to a portrait of Rajiv Gandhi at the All India NR Congress Office.
The Anti-Terrorism Day was also observed by the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee office here. The Congress leader, V. Narayanasamy, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president A.V. Shanmugam and other leaders took pledge.
Mr. Narayanasamy said the partymen should strive for the return of the Congress rule in Puducherry.
The Congress leaders took out a procession from the party office to Rajiv Gandhi Square where they paid floral tributes to the statue of the former Prime Minister.
