The Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has decided to put its weight behind the ruling faction of the party in Tamil Nadu.
The party legislators, who adopted a strategic silence all along while V.K. Sasikala and O. Panneerselvam were engaged in a bitter power struggle, on Sunday came out in support of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
Party legislative head A. Anbazhagan complimented Mr. Palaniswami for taking over the mantle of the Chief Minister's post. He expressed the hope that the party would reach new heights under the new leadership. Condemning the DMK for unleashing violence inside the Tamil Nadu House, Mr. Anbazhagan said the DMK did not respect democracy. He urged the Election Commission of India to disqualify the DMK members for creating a ruckus in the Assembly. The party wanted the government to register cases against DMK members under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for casting aspersions on Speaker P. Dhanapal.
