Puducherry, Karaikal regions improve their score

The two regions have recorded an overall pass percentage of 93.67 in class 10

The pass percentage of Puducherry and Karaikal regions in class 10 examinations has increased by 1.25 percentage points in the academic year 2016-2017 with an overall pass percentage of 93.67.

In a press release on Friday, the Directorate of School Education in Puducherry said of the 17,495 students appeared for the SSLC examination, 16,388 cleared it. Nearly 8,632 girls and 8,863 boys appeared for the examination. Of these, 8,278 girls and 8,110 boys cleared it. The pass percentage of girls and boys was 95.9 and 91.5 respectively.

Puducherry region recorded a pass percentage of 94.35, which was 0.87 percentage points more than last year; and Karaikal region recorded a pass percentage of 90.16, which was 3.24 percentage points more than last year.

In government schools, the pass percentage in Puducherry and Karaikal regions was 87.11, an increase of 2.13 percentage points. While in Puducherry region, it was 88.07% with 1.13 percentage points increase, the government schools in Karaikal region recorded a 83.32% pass, an increase of 6.11 percentage points.

Out of 301 schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions, nearly 143 secured centum pass result. Nearly 19 of the 111 government schools scored 100% pass results. Among them, 14 government schools are from Puducherry region.

The release detailed that number of students who scored centum in different subjects are 19 students in French language, 425 in Mathematics, 242 in Science and 1,673 in Social Science.

A senior official in the Directorate of School Education said that Puducherry and Karaikal regions had recorded a steady increase in the pass percentage from the academic year 2013-14. While the overall pass percentage in the academic year 2013-14 was 91.68, it recorded 92.31 in 2014-15, 92.42 in 2015-16, and 93.67 in 2016-17.
