Puducherry forms panel for admissions

Centac has been asked to handle admissions to professional courses

The Under Secretary to the Government (Higher and Technical Education) has issued an order that the Government of Puducherry has decided to entrust the task of admission to various professional courses for the academic year 2017-18 to the Centralised Admission Committee (Centac), Puducherry.

The various courses are engineering (including the Lateral Entry Scheme admission to the B.Tech course), medical, ayurveda, dental, veterinary and animal sciences, B.Pharma, B.Sc (nursing), BPT, B.Sc (MLT), B.Sc. (Agricuiture), B.Sc. (Horticulture), and LLB, which are offered by the colleges under the purview of the Government of Puducherry and the societies fully funded by the Government of Puducherry.

The seats of the above mentioned courses are offered by Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry; Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Karaikal; Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Puducherry; Rajiv Gandhi Ayurveda Medical College, Mahe; Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Institute, Puducherry; Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary and Educational Research, Puducherry; Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences, Puducherry; Pandit Jawharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute, Karaikal; and Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry. Seats to the above mentioned courses are available under the government quota seats to the extent of not more than 50% of the sanctioned intake in other unaided private professional educational institutions within the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Besides, admissions are carried out by Centac in respect of Government of India nomination seats sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, to the above mentioned courses in the government institutions throughout India.

Composition

The following is the composition of Centac for admission to various professional courses for 2017-18:

The Secretary to Government (Education), Puducherry, is the Chairman, and the members include Secretary to Government (Health), Puducherry; Director or Health and Family Welfare Services, Puducherry; Director of Higher and Technical Education, Puducherry; Principal, Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry; Principal, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Engineering and Technology; Director, Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute or Denial Sciences and Research Institute, Puducherry; Dean, Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences, Puducherry; Principal, Rajiv Gandhi Ayurveda Medical College, Mahe; Dean, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary and Educational Research, Puducherry; Dean, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture Research Institute, Karaikal; Principal, Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry. Co-ordinator (Admission), Centac, Puducherry, will be member and coordinator while Joint Convenor, Centac, Puducnerry, will be member and joint convenor and Director, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Puducherry will be member and convenor.

In order to co-ordinate and regulate admission to various courses for 2017-18, V. Govindaraj, Director (in charge), Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Puducherry, will be the Convenor of CENTAC-2017-18, K. Pajaniradja, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry, will be the Joint Convenor. CENTAC, and M. Jonathan Daniel, Professor and Head, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Puducherry, will be the Co-ordinator (Admission) and who will be in charge for counselling and admission process in the Engineering (including the Lateral Entry Scheme admission to B.Tech., courses) and Biology based courses.

The same committee shall handle the lateral entry of students to engineering courses in various colleges in the region.

Financial aid

The scheme of financial assistance through Perunthaliavar Kamarajar Financial Assistance Scheme shall be revised and notified separately taking into consideration, requirement of assistance to various courses other than medical, nursing, and engineering, reducing allocation to engineering courses.

The eligibility criteria and procedures for the admission of candidates to first year of various under graduate professional degree courses offered by the institutions referred above shall be notified separately.
