Over 12,185 new persons were added to the electorate of Union Territory of Puducherry as per the final voter list released by the Elections Department, Puducherry on Monday.
District Collectors of Puducherry and Karaikal released the list in form of compact disc (CD) and handed over to political parties. Puducherry District Collector S. Sundaravadivelu released the final voter list for Puducherry, Yanam and Mahe enclaves which come under Puducherry district.
Dr. Sundaravadivelu said that after processing applications for inclusions of voters’ names and deletions, a final voter list was published on Monday and the list was put on display in respective polling booth for public view until January 11.
There are 9,08,821 voters now in the Union Territory and 1.35 per cent of voters were newly added to 8,96,636 voters in the draft list which was published in October 15, 2014. The list included 40 third genders.
As per directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), with January 1, 2015 as the qualifying date, a special summary revision campaign was conducted in the Union Territory from October 15 to November 10 last year.
In a press release, Chief Electoral Officer T. Sreekanth said the final electorate is, as on today, 9,08,821 voters - 4,34,098 males and 4,74,683 females. Nearly 8,755 forms for corrections and 5,218 for transposition were received by the Elections Department. All forms were admitted.
Mr. Sreekanth said the final voters’ list 2015 would be displayed for seven days from Monday in all polling stations and in the office of the Electoral Registration offices/ Assistant Electoral Registration officers for public inspection (excluding public holidays).
EPIC cards
Electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) for the enrolled voters of 20 years and above will be issued in the polling stations from Monday until January 11.
For the age group 18 and 19 years whose names enrolled in the roll, the EPIC will be issued on the occasion of the National Voter’s Day celebrations to be held on January 25 in all polling stations.
According to the Elections Department, with 1,127 new voters, Villianur Assembly Constituency recorded the highest number of inclusions while the electorate in Mahe Assembly Constituency came down by 43 voters.
