Chief Secretary Chetan B. Sanghi has been transferred and posted as Joint-Secretary of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in New Delhi. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an order on Saturday.

The MHA had appointed Mr. Sanghi, senior IAS officer of the 1988 batch and who had served in Puducherry before, as the Chief Secretary in May 2013.

Mr. Sanghi, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was the Resident Commissioner of Mizoram in New Delhi for sometime. Being an officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory cadre, he had worked in Puducherry in 2003 and 2004 as Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor and held the portfolio of Industries and Public Works Department. He had also worked under Chief Minister N. Rangasamy in his earlier tenure.

On May 15, 2013, he took charge as Chief Secretary of Puducherry by replacing M.Sathiyavathy who had been transferred to Mizoram following a controversy over the shifting of finance secretary.

In the aftermath of the tsunami in 2004, Mr. Sanghi had led the rescue, relief and rehabilitation work in Puducherry and thereafter in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
