The leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Puducherry unit, have met party’s national president Amit Shah in Delhi and discussed the membership drive campaign in the Union Territory.
BJP Puducherry unit president M. Visweswaran and general secretary R.V. Saminathan held discussions with Mr. Shah at the party headquarters on Monday. Mr. Shah is understood to have urged them to conduct the membership drive so that more number of new members join the party. They also apprised him of political situation in the Union Territory.
In a separate meeting with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, the leaders urged him to appoint a permanent Lieutenant Governor for the Union Territory. They urged the Minister to take steps to ensure that the police act independently.
