PTDC staff allege corruption in payments to credit society

Protest against non-payment of dues to society for three months

Around 25 staff members of the Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) staged a protest outside the PTDC office, alleging corruption in payment of dues to the Puducherry Tourism and Transport Staff Credit Society.

They were representing 250 employees belonging to the catering, water sports and tourism divisions.

Led by general secretary of the PTDC catering employees union, Vijay Raghavan, the employees said that while the amount has been deducted from their salaries, payment has not been made towards the society for three consecutive months from February. They also alleged that there have been irregular deposits made for the last three years.

The Corporation has been deducting up to two per cent from every employee’s salary towards contribution to the society, said the employees. The matter came to light when the loan applications of some employees were rejected by the society.

When asked for his comments, Managing Director of PTDC K.K. Singh said: “We are paying salary regularly at the end of every month despite the huge losses we incur. For now, we have promised a 10 per cent increase in dearness allowance. We will look into the issue of payments to the society separately.”

“We have been promised that the dues will be paid within 15 days,” said Mr. Raghavan after staff members met Mr. Singh.
