Activists of the Puducherry State Scheduled Tribes Federation and other outfits on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office against the killing of 20 workers in Andhra Pradesh.

The agitators, led by the Federation president K. Ramkumar, demanded the Andhra Pradesh government to register a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) against the police personnel who were responsible for the killings.

They wanted a sum of Rs. 30 lakh to be given as compensation to bereaved families and a judicial enquiry conducted by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.

The protesters also demanded immediate release of workers from Tamil Nadu lodged in jails in Andhra Pradesh on charges of smuggling red sanders.
