Professor held for abusing minor girl

A professor of the Department of Tamil in Pondicherry University was arrested on Saturday on the charge of sexually abusing a minor girl.

The professor, M. Madialagan, residing at Kurinji Nagar in Lawspet, was booked under Section 4, 6, 7 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The incident came to light after the victim studying in class VIII in a government school lodged a complaint with the Childline.

The Childline, in turn, forwarded the complaint to the Child Welfare Committee.

Madialagan was produced before a judicial magistrate court which remanded him in custody in Kalapet Central Prison.
