The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded a thorough probe into the suicide of a Dalit youth.

In a statement, R. Rajangam, secretary of the CPI (M), said Sabarinathan of Samipillaithottam was picked by the Muthialpet police on August 22 for investigation and tortured.

On returning home, Sabarinathan hanged himself.

There were multiple injuries on his body and the police had taken Sabarinathan’s father’s signatures on a blank sheets of paper.

Condemning the police action, the CPI (M) demanded action against the personnel involved in the incident for abetting the suicide.

‘Register cases’

The CPI(M) has also urged the Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order), Rajiv Ranjan, to register cases against policemen Govindaraj, Muthukumar, Dev and Lourdes under the Scheduled Castes and The Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), 1989.
