The Puducherry Planning Authority (PPA) on Tuesday started inspection of high rise and multi-storey buildings under construction in the city.

Four teams each led by a Junior Town Planner checked for deviations and violations of building laws and regulations.

A senior official from PPA said the teams will check the buildings for compliance with the original plan and structural design approved by the PPA.

The builders have been asked to submit the approval, soil test report and structural design of the buildings for verification. If any deviations are found the PPA will issue show cause notices to the builders.

The teams will check measurement of columns and beams in the buildings and systematically verify if the construction was according to the approved plan or the structure had deviations, violations or change in design.

The teams will inspect at the plinth level, lintel level and finally after the construction is completed.

The drive comes in the wake of a multi-storey building which had been declared unsafe after cracks appeared on one of the columns of the structure.
