Pondicherry University hosts awareness workshop on NITI Aayog

Pondicherry University on Thursday hosted a national-level awareness workshop on NITI Aayog at the Academic Staff College, Silver Jubilee Campus.

Inaugurating the two-day conference, the Registrar, Pondicherry University, Pannirselvame, pointed out that NITI Aayog, the new structure replacing the earlier Planning Commission, under an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at promoting cooperative federation based on empowerment and equality of all stakeholders. This workshop was organised with a view to imparting the ideas of the NITI Aayog through various sessions to be presented by eminent resource persons.

A. David Ambrose, Head of the Department of Legal Studies, University of Madras, and Iyampillai, Head of the Department of Economics, Bharathidasan University, participated.

According to the theme paper of the conference, National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog is the new avatar of the earlier Planning Commission. In a landmark decision based on Mr. Modi’s initiative and backed by increasing calls from State heads, NITI Aayog has been set up as a think-tank for formulating a new policy framework in keeping with the changes and challenges of rapidly evolving socio-economic scenario in the country.
