The D. Nagar police are waiting for the report of a magisterial inquiry into the sexual abuse and impregnation of a 15-year-old girl here to identify the perpetrator.
The victim’s statement was recorded in the presence of a magistrate.
The girl’s parents committed suicide by consuming poison-laced soft drinks in Tirupur in Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
Conflicting versions
A probationary officer of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) conducted an enquiry with the victim. Later, upon being questioned by the police, the girl gave conflicting versions about the perpetrator, initially implicating her cousin but later claiming that her friend was responsible for the pregnancy. The girl was shifted to a home and a case was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The assault on the minor girl came to light last month when the victim’s mother took her to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer).
A scan revealed that the girl was pregnant with twins. The foetuses were aborted as per the decision of the girl’s mother. The hospital authorities alerted the CWC.
