Police arrest kingpins of lottery racket

Continuing their crackdown against organised crime, the police on Friday arrested three kingpins of a lottery cartel in the city who had gone absconding since the racket was busted recently.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Rajiv Ranjan said under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police (North) Rachna Singh a team led by Circle Inspector Senthilkumar received a tip-off about the clandestine movement of the kingpins identified as M.K. Azhagar alias Govindaraj of Orleanpet, Krishnan of Villianur and Sriram of Kathirkamam.

The team laid a trap and arrested Govindaraj and Krishnan at Chennai while Sriram was arrested at Thirubhuvanam in Villupuram district.

The police also recovered banned lottery tickets, a tablet and computer and Rs.50,000 in cash from them.

Cases have been registered against the accused under Sections 420, 468, 353, 332 and 109 of Indian Penal Code.

The accused will be produced before a local court and remanded to custody.
