The Pattali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) policy relating to Tamil Nadu for prohibition is equally applicable for Puducherry and there should not be even a single drop of liquor available in the Union Territory, PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss has said.

Speaking at the Vanniyar Sangam conference here on Saturday, he said when the PMK had championed the cause of total prohibition in Tamil Nadu, the government had expressed doubts that if the State remained dry there would be rampant smuggling of liquor from the neighbouring Puducherry. But this was not correct since the PMK, if elected to power in Puducherry, would definitely bring in prohibition in the Union Territory.

In a veiled attack on the ruling Congress and the previous AINRC Government, he said both the parties had let down the people.

People should repose faith in the PMK and ensure that its rule was established in the Union Territory.

Stating that the PMK had taken steps to establish a law college through its Vanniyar Educational Trust at Konerikuppam near Tindivanam, he said both the DMK and the AIADMK governments had not issued a no-objection certificate for the college for around nine years despite orders by the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court in favour of the institution.

But now, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had announced three colleges in the State and that Tindivanam would be one of the places for the institution. This only exposed the intention of the government to defeat the initiatives of the PMK to set up a law college through its trust.

Asserting that the PMK was not against Dalits, Dr. Ramadoss said the party had always been speaking in their support. He appealed to all sections of people belonging to different communities to ensure that the PMK was elected to power in the Union Territory so that there would be broad-based development.

Alcoholism misled a majority of youth. This would become a thing of the past if the PMK was elected to power.

Tamils issue

Referring to the death of LTTE supremo Prabakaran, he said had the DMK really intervened, Prabhakaran and Tamil Eelam could have been saved. Both the DMK and the Congress were accountable for it.

The PMK alone had the right to champion the cause of Tamil Eelam, while others were doing only lip service, Dr. Ramadoss added.
