People block traffic on Tiruvannamalai-Vellore road seeking freebies

March 05, 2014 12:52 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 06:26 am IST - Tiruvannamalai:

Residents of Vengikkal blocked traffic on Tiruvannamalai-Vellore road on Tuesday urging officials to speed up ongoing disbursal of free fans, grinders and mixers.

According to some residents, though they waited in queue for freebies, the crowd was not properly regulated and persons in charge of disbursal said that they ran out of stock. There were three ration shops in Vengikkal and freebies should have been sent to more than one place to avoid crowding.

Residents were worried because once Lok Sabha elections are announced, distribution of freebies would be stopped and many would not receive them at all.

The protesters dispersed following officials’ intervention.
