Pension to be hiked for former MLAs

The government has approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for its approval to increase the pension for former legislators after the Assembly Secretariat recommended an increase.

A source in the government said the Assembly Secretariat had proposed increase in the pension to ₹25,000 from the existing ₹10,000. There around 90 ex-MLAs drawing pension.

The Cabinet had approved the recommendation made by the Secretariat.

Speaker V. Vaithilingam, during a recent trip to New Delhi, had taken up the matter with MHA officials. Once the MHA gives its approval, the proposal will be placed before the Assembly.
