Over 110 cases booked for traffic violations in UT

More cases booked against cars using improper number plates

Nearly 116 cases were booked for traffic violations in Puducherry on Monday. A special drive was conducted in connection with the forthcoming assembly elections to be held in Puducherry in May.

The traffic police team headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Rachna Singh booked two cases against an auto and a bus driver for drunken driving. The special drive which began at 10.30 a.m. near Cuddalore Road Junction went on till 12 p.m.

More number of cases was booked against cars using improper number plates and tinted glasses in violation of the stipulated limit. “Cars are allowed only up to 30 percent of tinting in window. Many had violated these rules. Hence, they were booked under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act,” said the SSP (Traffic).

Drunken driving

Drunken driving cases were booked under Section 188 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

While the special drive primarily looked into these traffic violations, they also slapped cases against for many other violations including speeding and driving without licence.
