Over 100 girls take part in district sports meet

More than 100 girls participated in district-level women’s sports competitions conducted by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu under the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan here on Friday and Saturday.

Following are the winners in tennis in the Vellore block:

M. Akshitha and U. Nithyashree (Sathuvachari Champions Tennis Association Club, Vellore), and A. Kavya and M. Raghashree (Prince Tennis Academy).

Runners-up: Devadharshini and K.E. Gajalakshmi (Sathuvachari Champions Tennis Association Club), and T. Hamrutha and V. Ashwini (Prince Tennis Academy).

Gymnastics (winners): balancing beam - V. Kuralarasi (Shanthinikethan Matriculation School, Arcot; uneven bar - Y. Mahalakshmi (Government HSS, Arcot); vaulting horse - A. Shobana (GHSS, Arcot); floor - E. Iswariya (GHSS, Ayilam). (Runners-up): balancing beam - E. Iswariya; uneven bar - N. Kalaiarasi

(Arcot Sri Mahalakshmi MHSS, Vilapakkam); vaulting horse - B. Madhumathy (TLLM School, Arcot); floor - V. Kuralarasi (Shanthinikethan MHSS, Arcot).

K. Manivannan, District Revenue Officer and Collector-in-charge distributed the prizes to the winners at the valedictory function held at the Government Nethaji Stadium here on Saturday. K. Pugazhendhi, District Sports Officer, Vellore, presided. P. Karthiyayini, Mayor of Vellore, inaugurated the competitions .
