The Education Department has sanctioned a state-of-the-art building to house an outdoor stadium on the shores of beach here at an estimate of about Rs. 8 crore.
The building will house two galleries - one on the eastern side and another on the western side; 400 metre track; basket ball court, volley-ball court, kabaddi court.
The outdoor stadium is under construction by the Public Works Department at a site of 14 hectares.
“We have included a skating rink as the sport has been gaining popularity among the youths,” an official told The Hindu here.
He said that the construction of indoor stadium had been completed and handed over to the Education Department. The outdoor stadium is being constructed outside the indoor stadium and both have common entrance. Since the track work has been in progress, the entry to the indoor stadium had been closed to ensure safety and speedy execution.
