Oulgaret Municipality has warned of stringent action against illegal encroachments on the sides of arterial roads and cross roads. Commissioner M.S. Ramesh asked the shopkeepers to evict the encroachments themselves. If they failed to remove the encroachments themselves, the municipality itself would begin a crackdown without issuing prior notice, he said.
In a press release, the Commissioner had said that the sides of arterial roads and cross roads had been encroached upon in several areas of the municipality.
Safety of public
Public also crowd such shops and that leads to obstruction of free flow of traffic. This in turn leads to accidents.
“Hence the situation jeopardises the safety of public. Under the Puducherry Municipality Act 1973 and Rules framed thereunder, such encroachments are contrary to rules and regulations and liable to be subjected to criminal court proceedings,” said Mr. Ramesh.
