Representatives from the opposition Congress, DMK and CPI (M) on Monday urged Lieutenant Governor Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh to intervene and take immediate steps to improve the power situation in the city.

In a memorandum submitted to him, V. Vaithilingam, Leader of Opposition, S.P. Sivakumar, convenor of DMK (North) and T. Murugan, senior leader of CPI (M) said residents in several parts of the city were suffering due to long power cuts.

Mr. Sivakumar said that residents of Muthialpet, Kamaraj Nagar and parts of Raj Bhavan and Lawspet were experiencing the worst ever power failure of more than 14 hours a day.

The Lieutenant Governor should immediately intervene and take corrective steps to improve the power situation in the city, he said.

AIADMK Legislator Om Sakthi Sekar has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to immediately provide house site pattas to residents of Periyar Nagar who have been residing in a private land for the last couple of decades. In a memorandum to Lt. Gen. Singh, he said that despite submitting memorandums to officials concerned the government did not take any steps to give pattas to the residents.
