The College of Nursing, Jipmer, celebrated the lamp lighting ceremony for B.Sc. Nursing first year students on Monday.
The nurses received the lamp from seniors in a ceremonial tribute to Florence Nightingale at a function held at Jipmer’s Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Jipmer Auditorium.
It marked not only an occasion to usher them into the noble profession but also to symbolise transfer of knowledge and inculcate ideals of compassion and care in those who will be tending the sick in hospital.
Pledge administered
Santhi Tamilmani, officer-in-charge Nursing Services, Jipmer, administered the Nightingale’s Pledge.
M.J. Kumari, prof. cum Ag. Principal, College of Nursing, Jipmer, S.C. Parija, Director, Jipmer, and S. Poonguzhali, Principal, College of Nursing, Madurai Medical College, were among the dignitaries.
R.P. Swaminathan, Dean (Academic), Jipmer, offered felicitations. Others who participated were Padmavathi Nagarajan, assistant professor, College of Nursing, Jipmer, P. Vetriselvi, assistant professor, and R.S. Ramesh, assistant professor.
Merit certificates were presented to students on the occasion.
