The seventh convocation for Nursing and Allied Medical Sciences of JIPMER was held at JIPMER on Saturday.

This was the first time a separate convocation was hosted for the students of Nursing and Allied Medical sciences. It was held to highlight the growing importance of such courses and the critical role they play in healthcare services in India.

Dr. B.N. Gangadhar, Director, NIMHANS, Bengaluru who was the chief guest, presented degrees to 181 successful students of JIPMER from various disciplines. After administering the oath to the graduates, he presented scrolls to the candidates.

Hailing the role of nurses in healthcare, Dr. Gangadhar said the nurses were the pivot of hospital operations. Besides being the first point of contact for patients, their relatives and even doctors, nurses were entrusted with ward management.

Drawing from his own interactions with them, some of which “left a deep impression”, Dr. Gangadhar said nursing combined professional skills with the humane qualities of care, comfort and compassion.

Dr. S. C. Parija, as the Vice-Chancellor and director JIPMER, highlighted the notable achievement of the institute in the last one year. Dr. S. Mahadevan, Dean-Academics administered the oath of medical practice to the graduates.

Dr. M. K. Bhan, president of JIPMER, as the Chancellor of JIPMER University presided over the convocation function.

Medals and endowment prizes were given to 14 candidates who excelled in academics.

Students who shone in socio-cultural activities were also honoured.
