Lieutenant Governor A.K. Singh launches the website in Puducherry on Tuesday

The administrators of the Union Territory have not been known to be social media or Internet-savvy. Lieutenant Governor A.K. Singh seems all set to change that.

On Tuesday, Lt Gen (Retd) Singh launched a new website for his Secretariat in Raj Nivas, which has information on his office and its activities. Lt Gen (Retd) Singh is no stranger to social media either. He is active on Twitter and keeps in regular touch with people in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands through his tweets, besides announcing news and redressing complaints. Air services to the islands is the most discussed topic.

Of late, Lt Gen (Retd) Singh has also begun posting his impressions of Puducherry. He has tweeted about meetings with officials and people, visit to the Botanical Garden, the gym for police personnel and posted photographs from his swearing-in ceremony in July. On Monday, the LG’s Secretariat has also opened a Facebook account with a photograph of Raj Nivas being the first post. Lt Gen (Retd) Singh’s active social media profile may spur other administrators and politicians to also take to the Internet to attract the Union Territory’s youth.
