Electricity Minister R. Kamalakannan who also holds the Education portfolio prefers his personal scooter to attend to official work and for conducting surprise inspections at the Government-run educational institutions in Puducherry after having problems with the government vehicle allocated to him.

On Wednesday, Mr. Kamalakannan used his scooter to attend a government function at Ganapathichettikulam some 20 km away.

The Minister was accompanied by his personal Security Officer who was coming in a separate two-wheeler.

Mr. Kamalakannan was elected from Thirunallar constituency in Karaikal region in the recently held Assembly elections.

As per the protocol, Mr. Kamalakannan was given a Toyota Innova car by the Office of Council of Ministers (OCM) .

Break down

But the vehicle allotted to him broke down because of overuse . It is reliably learnt that the vehicle is on the verge of being condemned .

“The car has suffered a breakdown and is on the verge of being condemned. I didn’t press them for another vehicle as I have preferred to use my scooter to commute within the city and to use a car only during my visit to Karaikal,” Mr. Kamalakannan told The Hindu .

With his official car breaking down, the Minister has chosen to use his scooter to reach office
