The Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited (NLCIL) has opened ‘Makkal Marunthagam,’ a generic medicine pharmacy outlet. The pharmacy was opened under the Centrally sponsored ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadi Pariyojana,’ scheme.

Director Human Resource R. Vikraman inaugurated the outlet. Chief General Manager M. Karthikeyan was present.

The pharmacy would provide medicines at an affordable price (90% to 97%) to the people of Neyveli and surrounding areas.

The Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India (BPPI), the implementing agency, had opened 3,500 generic pharmacy outlets in India since the scheme was launched. In Tamil Nadu alone, as many as 316 generic medicine pharmacy outlets were opened, NLCIL said in a release.
