Clean energy: S.K. Acharya, chairman and managing director, NLC India Ltd., says there is paradigm shift towards clean energy in the market.

Sarat Kumar Acharya, chairman and managing director, NLC India Ltd, inaugurated a 40 MW solar power project in Neyveli at Block-14 polling substation on Wednesday.

In his presidential address, Mr. Acharya said the concept of renewable energy through solar power projects at Neyveli began two years ago with a 10 MW goal which was scaled up to 50 MW, and was now slated to touch 140 MW in a couple of months. “The market today has taken a paradigm shift from the dictates of the suppliers to a demand-driven entity. Complacency should be avoided to achieve goals for excelling on all fronts,” he said.

The 2 x 65 MW solar power project on an area of 650 acres with polycrystalline technology for the modules (at different module ratings) to generate 216.372 million units of green power per annum.

The Tangedco has agreed to pay ₹4.41 per unit of power under the power purchase agreement.

The grid connectivity on a permanent basis will be 110/220 kV NNTPS substation and 110 kV Panruti Feeder LILO (Loop-in-Loop-Out) connection on a temporary basis.

This green power initiative is likely to reduce the loading of about 2.16 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere compared to the fossil fuel, NLC India said.

Functional directors Rakesh Kumar, Subir Das, P. Selvakumar, R. Vikraman, CVO T. Venkatasubramanian, P.A. Senthilkumar, CGM (P&BD), senior officials, and the representatives of trade unions participated.
