NLCIL donates battery car to Meenakshi temple

It will be maintained for the next five years by the vendor

NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) has donated a battery-operated car for the use of senior citizens and devotees visiting Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai. Sarat Kumar Acharya, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLCIL, formally handed over the keys of the vehicle to the representatives of the temple.

According to a release, the initiatives of the company under corporate social responsibility are mainly focussed on potable water besides water for irrigation, education and infrastructure for people in rural areas. The NLCIL initiated steps to provide facilities at ancient temples and places of heritage. The battery operated vehicle, costing ₹9 lakh, can transport seven passengers and will be maintained for the next five years by the vendor. Natarajan, Joint Commissioner, Hindu Endowments Board, Government of Tamil Nadu, formally received the car on behalf of the temple.

The NLCIL has already provided such facilities at Chidambaram, Tirupati, Virudhachalam, Velankanni and Puri in Odisha. R. Mohan, Chief General Manager, CSR (Education and Sports), and R. Rajameenakshi, General Manager, Human Resources, Neyveli Thermal Power Ltd., participated.
