NLCIL builds nine new classrooms for govt. school

The building was constructed at a cost of ₹80.2 lakh

Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Ltd opened additional classrooms for the Government Higher Secondary School at Puthunagar, Vadalur in Cuddalore.

Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLC India, T.P. Rajesh, District Collector, Cuddalore and R. Vikraman, Director (HR), NLCI inaugurated the facility, which was built under the NLC’s CSR activity.

The building, constructed at a cost of ₹80.2 lakh, houses nine classrooms and each classroom is provided with a blackboard and cupboards for books.

Mr. Acharya said the NLC had constructed the new building in response to a request from the district administration and the Education department.

He advised the students and staff to bring fame to the school by not only achieving good results in the exams but also inculcate cultural, ethical values to become good citizens and propel the growth of the nation.

NLC’s CSR wing was also focused on water augmentation to reduce the problems of water crisis by de-silting the water bodies in and around Neyveli, Mr. Acharya said and noted that NLC was at present supplying 7 million litres of water per day to Chennai to ease the water crisis.

Mr. Rajesh complimented the NLC management for its CSR initiatives that ranged across education capacity building, water augmentation and skill development.

He added that the Cuddalore district administration has taken a project with the help of other government bodies to desilt or develop water tanks by desilting more than7.4 lakh cubic metres of silt.

NLC has also volunteered to desilt water tanks in 14 villages at a cost of ₹3.5 crore and it is also ready to develop potable water wells with solar pumps in villages. He said until now around 390 water tanks are being cleaned.

R. Murugan, Chief Educational Officer, Cuddalore, R. Mohan, CGM/CSR, J. Peter James, GM/CSR and senior officials of NLCIL and Thirumurugan Headmaster, staff members and school children participated.

Later, the NLC CMD launched an LED lighting facility, put up at a cost of ₹10 lakh under the CSR initiatives to the administration of Thiru Arut Prakasa Vallalar Deiva Gnanasabhai, Vadalur.
