Chief Secretary Manoj Parida on Friday launched the Arms Licence Issuance System (ALIS) as part of a nation-wide drive to monitor and streamline arms licencing.

The ALIS, which aims to bring uniformity in the arms licence issuance process and track online the licensed arms and weapons across the country, has been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) as per the requirement of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The ALIS application enables to cross-check the arms licence information by various stakeholders such as District Magistrates, police department, State home department, security agencies and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Further, this application enables online issue of fresh licences and the allied services such as renewal, endorsement of weapon to another type, area of validity extension, registration of outside licence and change of address.

The system ensures uniformity in data collection, security and verification of licence. The Nationality Status Verification initiative was also launched at the video conference hall of the chief secretariat.

The Government to Citizen web application, also developed by NIC, is expected to help Indians stranded in foreign countries needing assistance to return to India. It would help police authorities expedite the process of nationality status verification and pre-empt deportation.
