Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Misra on Friday inspected the facilities and infrastructure and progress of works at the Puducherry Railway Station.

Mr. Misra inspected the tracks, railway level crossings, station premises as part of the mandatory annual inspection. Later, talking to press persons here, Mr. Misra said that the Railways had shifted the goods shed here to pave the way for construction of a new platform.

The shed was shifted as the movement of lorries was hindering the smooth flow of traffic in the area. The new platform would be thrown open for use in six to eight months. He said that works were progressing on construction of railway over bridges on the 100-feet Road and Arumathapuram in Puducherry. The construction of girders in the over bridges was nearing completion and the Railways was waiting for the Puducherry Government to complete the remaining portion of the works.

Replying to a question, he said that the Puducherry Government was extending full cooperation to the Railways in the project.

Mr. Misra was accompanied by senior officials of various departments of the Chennai and Tiruchi division of the Southern Railway, including Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager.
