The government on Saturday launched a mechanism for checking crimes against women and children and making Puducherry a safe place for them.

The ‘6P Concept for Prevention of Crime Against Women and Children’ envisages establishing collective involving parents/principals, police, prosecution/courts, politicians, prisons and the press to check such crimes.

Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi and Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy launched the mechanism along with an NGO directory at a meeting with NGOs convened at the Raj Nivas.

The Director of Social Welfare R. Meena Kumari said the Department has worked for convergence of all NGOs by bringing out a directory.

Ms. Bedi said the ‘6 P pillars’ will be brought under an institutionalised hub.

Mr. Kandasamy said that the Council of Ministers was on the same page with the Lt. Governor on such initiatives and would extend full cooperation. The meeting was attended to by K. Sundari, chairperson, Women's Commission, officers of Women and Child Welfare Department and officials of 92 NGOs.
