Sending a strong message to the police force, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Monday said his government would not spare “black sheep” within its ranks.
He told presspersons that the government was determined to provide security to people and would not hesitate to take action against anti-social elements.
“The police have been able to crack a number of crimes involving anti-social elements. At the same time, the government is aware of the bad elements within the police,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the government would take action against officers found hobnobbing with anti-social elements. Two police officers had been suspended, he added.
Mr. Narayanasamy said the police had been told to “use all means within the ambit of law, including use of weapons to curb the activities of anti-social elements.” The force had been given a free hand to deal with criminals.
The police had been told to step up intelligence gathering against anti-social elements.
On Goods and Services Tax, he said the Centre had ranked the Union Territory seventh in implementing the new tax regime.
