Up in arms: Cadre of the Naam Tamizhar Katchi staging a rail roko in Puducherry on Thursday in protest against alleged firing by Indian Coast Guard on fishermen in Rameswaram.

Around 30 cadre belonging to the Naam Thamizhar Katchi courted arrest on Thursday while staging a “rail roko” to protest against the alleged opening of fire on Indian fishermen while they were fishing in the high seas in the Palk Bay.

They gathered inside the railway station and blocked a passenger train.

The cadre raised slogans against the Indian Coast Guard and demanded action against those who ordered the firing.

The party wanted the Centre to intervene so that such incidents did not recur. The protesters were later released.
