The Puducherry Municipality has warned roadside eateries and night tiffin centres not to occupy pavements and roads affecting pedestrians and road users. If they continue to do so, the municipality would launch a crackdown and cancel the Trade license of the eateries.

Chairs, tables on roads

In a release, R. Chandirasekaran, Commissioner of Puducherry Municipality said road side eateries spread out chairs and tables on pavements and roads eating away parking space. Though most of the eateries functioned from their own premises they continued to occupy the arterial roads.

When the vendors shut shop the leftover food was also dumped in the vicinity posing health hazards. The municipality will take severe action against roadside eateries found violating rules and their trade licenses would also be cancelled, he said.
