Mortal remains of Cardinal Lourdusamy to reach Puducherry today

The mortal remains of Cardinal Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy who died in Rome will be brought from Rome to Chennai on Saturday and to Puducherry later in the day.

According to Fr. Jayanth Rayan, of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the body will be brought by an Air India flight to Chennai at around 4.15 p.m.

After being kept there for about an hour, it will be brought to Puducherry by 9 p.m.

A motorcade from Jipmer will be taken out along Kamaraj Salai, JN Street and Mission Street to end at the cathedral.

Arch Bishop Antony Anandarayar will pay homage and lead a prayer.

Procession

Another procession will be taken out later in the night along St.Theresa Street and reach Petite Seminaire Higher Secondary School where the body will be kept at the Escande Hall till 10 a.m. on Monday to enable the public to pay homage.

Funeral on Monday

The funeral on Monday will be attended by several dignitaries, including a nominee of the Pope.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday condoled the death of the Cardinal.

In a statement, he said he was deeply pained over the death of Cardinal Lourdusamy who was considered to be first Tamil cardinal in Roman Catholic Church.

“He was simple and a hard worker. His death is not only loss to Roman Catholic community but also to the several people who have moved with him,” the Chief Minister said.
