The Dalit Liberation Movement – Tamil Nadu has petitioned the Union and State Governments expressing unhappiness over the lethargic disbursal of money for girls belonging to the Scheduled Castes under the National Scheme for Incentives to Girls for Secondary Education.

S. Karupaiah, the organisation’s State joint general secretary, said here that 74,232 girls from Tamil Nadu were yet to get the amount for the 2008-09 academic year even though ₹ 28.28 crore was sanctioned in 2016.

The list of girls for the subsequent years were yet to be given to the Union Government.

The government should expedite the disbursals, and avoid delays in preparation of beneficiary lists, said Mr. Karuppaiah.
