Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister of State V. Narayanasamy on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to keep the election promise to bring back black money stashed away in foreign banks.

He was addressing functionaries at the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) office here. Mr. Narayanasamy said Mr. Modi promised that he would bring black money stashed away in foreign banks within 100 days of coming to power. But he has failed to keep his promises.

He said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government had also taken earnest steps to retrieve black money from foreign countries and submitted an affidavit before the Supreme Court. BJP leaders such as L.K.Advani, Arun Jaitley then charged the UPA government with being inactive to retrieve the black money. Describing the ruling AII India NR Congress government as ineffective, he said, “The government is being run like a feudal administration”.

The AINRC which came to power three and half year ago has failed to implement programmes in a sustained manner, he said. Even at the time of Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister N.Rangasamy promised to get Statehood and secure a Central waiver of Rs.6,000 crore and implement a financial package to revive the Anglo-French Textile Mills. However, none of these promises had been fulfilled, Mr. Narayanasamy said.

Alleging the government had not taken any steps to alleviate the sufferings of the farmers who were affected by the northeast monsoon rain, Mr.Narayanasamy said while Tamil Nadu wrote to the Centre demanding funds for flood relief activities, the Puducherry Chief Minister did not hold a review meeting to take stock of situation.

Setting a target for the party functionaries to enrol one lakh new members before November 30, he advised them to step down if they would be unable to achieve the target.
