With the Medical Council (MCI) asking Puducherry to complete the admission process by August 31, Minister for Health Malladi Krishna Rao, had directed the Department of Health to send letters to the Sri Venkateshwara Medical College and Hospital and a medical college in Mahe, urging them to allot 50% seats under the government quota.

When contacted, the Minister said that these two colleges had allotted only 35% of the seats. “This academic year, we want to ensure that they shared 50 per cent of their seats,” he said.

He added that the government was waiting for a court verdict on the proposed 85% seat reservation to State board students and 15% for others in MBBS and BDS courses in T.N. “We will wait till Friday and decide on the counselling dates for management quota seats. If Tamil Nadu gets a relaxation, it might apply here as well. This will benefit the students of Puducherry,” he said. Only the first round of counselling had been conducted so far. The government was yet to hold first round of counselling for management quota seats.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Education had informed students that they might remit the fee and claim reimbursement under Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance.
