The police on Friday arrested a man for cheating a person of ₹30,000 using an e-commerce website.

Superintendent of Police (North) Rachna Singh said Sathish Kumar, a resident of Ezhil Nagar in Lawspet, saw an advertisement on OLX website for a used mobile phone and deposited ₹30,000 in the Paytm account of the seller who had been identified as Arjun alias Adityan of Uruvaiyar, Puducherry. Mr. Kumar waited for more than a fortnight but did not get the handset. When he tried to contact Adityan, the latter’s mobile phone was found switched off.

Trapped

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police laid a trap for Adityan and arrested him.

He confessed to the crime. Around four mobile phones and ₹1 lakh cash were recovered from him.

Police said the accused used to create fake Paytm accounts after getting SIM cards registered in various names and then post advertisements on the OLX website.
