The Villupuram All Women Police Station on Wednesday arrested a 43-year-old man on charges of raping and impregnating a minor, who was the niece of his live-in partner.
The accused, Ayappan, a driver of Kumarapalayam in Villupuram, was arrested and remanded to custody.
The police said said the accused, who was already married and has two children, was living with another woman in Villupuram. The woman’s niece, hailing from Puducherry, stayed in the house and was studying Class IX in a government schoo. He raped her when she was alone at home. The girl complained to her mother who took her back to Puducherry.
The crime came to light when the victim’s mother took her for a check up at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The minor girl was found to be pregnant. The Villupuram All Women Police registered a case against Ayappan under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and arrested him.
