It is one thing to establish tourist-friendly attractions; quite another to maintain them in good shape.

Lt. Governor A.K. Singh while reviewing the newly-established Sub-Regional Science Centre and Planetarium in Puducherry — his first visit since the Rs. 5.5 crore facility came up in May 2014 — seemed to drive home this point when he took a tour of the premises.

The Lt. Governor noted that the exhibits were designed to create scientific temper and inspire interest among students and the science park exhibits designed to encourage students to learn science through fun and play.

During his visit, Mr. Singh instructed M. Dwarakanath, Director, to ensure that the Science Centre and Planetarium are properly maintained.

A project of the Puducherry Council for Science and Technology, the Puducherry Science Centre and Planetarium in Lawspet has been set up by the National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata, under the guidance of the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM), Bengaluru.

In a short span, the Planetarium has turned out to be one of the most popular attractions for tourists, especially schoolchildren.
