Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Wednesday directed authorities to put systems in place to clear the heaps of garbage and silt lying in the Thengaithittu fishing harbour.

Ms. Bedi, accompanied by officials from various departments, visited the Thengaithittu fishing harbour and inspected the infrastructural facilities.

Expressing concern over the poor sanitary conditions in the premises and the badly damaged roads leading to the harbour, Ms. Bedi directed officials to put in place systems and an action plan to clean the premises within the next 15 days.

“I will inspect the site again in 15 days and officials have been directed to clear all the floating garbage before that. The prevailing unhygienic conditions in the harbour and its surroundings could result in loss of revenue to the Government.

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and Ministers will also inspect the harbour and a decision would be taken to improve the existing facilities,” Ms. Bedi told reporters.

Ms. Bedi also inspected the ice plant, fish processing unit and other infrastructural facilities at the harbour.
