Left parties on Friday announced that they would observe bandh separately on Saturday here demanding that the government bring a special enactment for keeping Aurobindo Ashram Trust and its Society under control.
Leaders of Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI(Marxist-Leninist) Revolutionary Socialist Party, and All India Forward Bloc discussed various issues including the death of three women who were expelled from Ashram.
The parties passed a resolution condemning the inaction of the ruling party on the increasing sexual harassment complaints. The resolution said even though the police rescued the sisters who were expelled from the Ashram when they first attempted to commit suicide from the top of the building on Wednesday, the police failed to pre-empt the family suicide next day.
Talking to media persons, CPI unit secretary R.Viswanathan said the left parties decided to observe bandh for various demands. He said the Ashram Trust and its Society should be monitored by the government.
S.Balasubramanian, CPI(ML) unit secretary said, “The Union Territory Government should recommend to the Union Government to enact special legislation in the Parliament so as to monitor and control the Ashram.”
They sought a CBI probe into the death of three women and into allegations of sexual assault on children. They also said irregularities in connection with Centralised Admission Committee should be enquired by the central agency.
They have planned to conduct a demonstration in front of Head Post office for the same demands.
