People whose lands were acquired to establish the Pondicherry Central University staged a protest in the university demanding job to their kin. Nearly 800 acres were taken from farmers in Pillaichavady, Chinna Kalapet, Periya Kalapet and Kanagachettikulam for the university.

The protesters locked the main door of the administrative building and protested seeking the promised jobs. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the university vice-chancellor in charge Anisa Basheer Khan.

K. Ananthan, one of the protesters, said that the people whose lands were acquired were promised jobs in Pondicherry University. “When the land was acquired, One job was promised for every survey number. While they acquired 800 acres of land, only 70 jobs have been given to the families so far. The University has to provide jobs to at least 100 persons more,” he said.

A senior official of the university said that the jobs were given as promised but the protesters were demanding jobs for their children too.
