Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Saturday advised industrialists to approach the police on extortion threats and assured them of immediate action. As part of her 80th weekend visit, Ms. Bedi visited the industrial area in Vadamangalam following a representation from the Vadamangalam Industries Owners and Service Providers Association stating that industries were forced to contribute money for various events.
Rounds by beat officers
Ms. Bedi assured the industrialists of immediate action on extortion complaints and said that beat officers would make regular rounds to keep check on such incidents.
A Whatsapp Group would also be created comprising the Police, Commune Panchayat, PWD, Electricity officials along with industrialists for sharing grievances and quick redressal. She also advised the industrialists to install CCTV cameras in their premises to act as a deterrent.
Reviews beach project
The Lt. Governor also reviewed the ongoing beach nourishment project and directed the officials to expedite the work. She also reviewed the preparatory work for operation of the Puducherry port.
Ms. Bedi also stressed the need for preparation of a comprehensive plan for port operation encompassing traffic plan for movement of vehicles, police posts, signages, camera installation, refuelling and repairing yard, annual dredging plan and filling up of vacant posts. The preparatory and infrastructure work should be completed before the operation of the port, she said. Rajendiran, Executive Engineer, Ports and Sidhartha Kumar, Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) were present.
A press note from Raj Nivas said that on Sunday, Team Raj Nivas was joined by Team Swachh Puducherry on a cycle tour of the city for a status check on the overall state of cleanliness.
The teams presented the Swachh workers with shawls. The workers said while they clean, some people litter the place again in their very presence.
The Lt. Governor urged the public to “respect their services.”
“A while from now even their services will become difficult to get. Or not affordable as is the case in the West. The sooner we switch to source segregation and mechanised collection and then waste to wealth/ energy/ manure/ creation, the better it would be.”
